3 — Lyndsey Scott, Annie Anton, Heart Songs & Circle Songs, Rev. Deborah Johnson
Lyndsey Scott is a multimedia artist, songleader, songwriter, and ritualist committed to exploring community singing as a technology of belonging and a strategy for mutual liberation. She currently teaches “Community Singing as Collective Power” at the University of Iowa and priestesses ceremony in service of social change with EarthKeeper Wisdom School. Her beloved anthem “The Way Knows” invites us to flex our sacred trust muscles, and her prayer for prison abolition “Over/Under” invites us to do this until we free us.

Heart Songs & Circle Songs is the co-creation of Heather Pierson and Bernice Martin. Heather is a full time music maker from New Hampshire. Bernice is a singer/songwriter, licensed massage therapist, and ordained community minister from Maine. Since 2018, together they have created and shared dozens of original songs and two songbooks, inspired by the power of song to connect, nourish, and heal.
Rev. Deborah L. Johnson, MBA is the author of The Sacred YES and Your Deepest Intent and is the founder of Inner Light Ministries and Unleashing Our Future. From Fortune 500 clients to community organizing, her message is always one of inclusion, empowerment, and possibilities.
7 — Amanda West, Saritah, Hanna Leigh, Alexa Sunshine Rose
Amanda West is a songwriter, community leader, music & creativity coach, mother, and ever-evolving human. After a lifetime devoted to music in many realms, Amanda founded The Covered Bridge Community Choir in 2022, as a response to the growing climate & global crises. This all-ages group sings medicine songs for resilience, hope and connection to support the rebirthing of ourselves into a more beautiful, sustainable world.

Hanna Leigh is a recording artist and voice mentor who has been leading community singing circles for nearly ten years. She is also the founder of an organization called Weaving Remembrance, which helps people get in touch with their indigenous European roots.

Tembre de Carteret is a Song Leader, Community Choir Leader, Composer & Song Mentor originally from the UK now living with her family in County Clare Ireland. Tembre has been leading communities in song for 20 years in person and online since March 2019. Tembre is the creator & host of We May Sing online singing community & Gathering Hearts. She creates an inclusive and organic space to explore our voices, bringing an armful of original & community songs to inspire, soothe, and resource us at this time with a voice so sweet & nourishing for our ears & hearts.

Lea Morris is a singer/songwriter and choral composer whose accessible, uplifting songs draw rhythmic and thematic inspiration from her upbringing in the Southern Baptist church of the US – without being religious. She has a gift for excavating the spiritual from within the mundane and bringing joy wherever she shares her music.
Mila Redwood is a Community Song Leader, Mother, and Founder of Sing for Joy in Canada, who pioneered an oral-tradition singing movement in Toronto and beyond. Mila uses song as a tool for building community, for restoring our sense of belonging and connection in a fragmented world. She is also a proud steward of the Singing Mamas movement in North America, paving the way for Community Singing to be implemented as a socially prescribed, therapeutic modality for postnatal and maternal mental health.

Kate Sutherland is a multi-creative who feels alive when leading community song circles, (re)uniting folks with their creative passions, making art out of the everyday, moving her body, belly laughing and standing in wonder of the natural world. Dodie Whitaker (she/her), a dynamic performer, composer, educator, and community activist, brings a unique blend of infectious enthusiasm and expertise to her extensive body of work. Co-author of the influential document “Who is Community Singing For?” Dodie integrates her unique lived experiences with a lifelong legacy of fighting for freedom and racial, social and LGBTQ+ justice, to support and empower communities to create lasting systemic change. Valentina Levchenko is a singer, improviser, composer, and community leader from Kyiv, Ukraine, who blends Ukrainian folk traditions with global influences. A former business professional, she transitioned into music under the mentorship of Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin, honing her skills in the U.S., Canada, and Brazil. She founded the Kyiv Community Choir, organizes music camps in unique Ukrainian, Georgian and Bulgarian locations, and released the album Berehy, which was named one of Ukraine’s top 10 indie albums of the year.

3 — Becky Reardon, Kate Munger, Te Martin, Laura Sera
Becky Reardon’s early career featured her singing in the Charlie Brown TV shows, and performing in folk clubs in San Francisco. Since moving to New Mexico in the ’90s she has been leading singing circles and creating songs and rounds which are widely sung by Threshold and other community choirs and song circles.
Kate Munger founded the Threshold Choir 25 years ago and knows deep in her heart the power of song to effect change. She will be offering defiance in the form of spirited community singing on January 18 across the street from the Ferry Building in San Francisco and she welcomes all singers.
Te (“tea”) Martin believes in the power of song as a tool for collective liberation, somatic regulation, and ancestral connection. They are currently jazzed about studying the Irish bodhrán drum and finding the places where song, ritual theater, and circus arts intersect. Te co-organized Thrive Street Choir in the SF Bay Area for six years and released their first EP of original songs, “Water & Bones” in 2021.
